WtF - issue #16 curated by Gijs and Robert
Ready or not here is WtF #16! 100% human-written with a broad range of topics and many links ;-). From offline to online to real or virtual to AI and man-made. Feel free to share or ask a friend, colleague or total stranger to subscribe… and/or buy us a coffee ☕️
The Offline Club 💭
Bill Gates locked himself up in a treehouse for a week without his mobile or a laptop. During this Think Week he came up with the idea for Explorer. The Offline Club has been founded on the same principles: Only you and your thoughts are allowed in, everything electronic and ‘smart’ stays out.
NSJ Archive 🎺
Fancy timeless live souljazzhippop quality music? Since 1992, the Dutch broadcaster NTR has been responsible for recording and broadcasting the North Sea Jazz festival on TV. They have now recorded more than 1,500 concerts and interviews. These are published on the North Sea Jazz Archive YouTube channel. With live performances and interviews of legends like a young Amy Winehouse, Roy Hargrove, D'Angelo, James Brown and many other legends. New videos are added every day.
Bobby Fingers 🎬
My agenda has been driving me crazy for the last couple of weeks. Too many appointments and not enough time to digest all the great experiences. Surrealist Bobby Fingers has been helping me to relax from time to time with his insane tutorial YouTube videos like this one: Drunk Mel Gibson Arrest Diorama.
Face Computer 🕶️
The 2013 gadget of the year was Google Glass. The combination of privacy concerns, a strikingly ugly design, a high price and very limited functionality meant that Google Glass ultimately failed to achieve mainstream success. Anno 2024 Meta is trying the glass game again. By partnering with Rayban, at least the design is better as is the price. Furthermore the feature of the Meta AI assistant makes it possible to process multiple types of information like photos, audio, and text. Because it’s paired to your phone, there’s very little wait time for answers. The glasses take a picture, the AI communes with the cloud, and an answer arrives in your ears. Will this face computer be the new summer gadget of 2024?
WTF Recommends…👍: Suno 🎼
My favorite AI tool right now is Suno, an AI-driven music generation platform that allows users to create original music in various genres and styles including lyrics based on the user's input and preferences. Just register and you can start right away by entering your own prompt. The prompt: 'a funky eclectic electronic summer pop melody with the words What Thinks Fritz' produces stunning results within seconds. And remix variations are made in no time. Up to 10 songs for free per day.
José James 🎵
From instant AI hits to real just released music is just a small step…
Thanks for reading. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for listening.
Hasta la vista!
