[Weingut Paul Schumacher]

Forget crowded beach clubs. From late July until the end of October, this German winery transforms its vineyards into one of the most magical weekend hangouts you'll find. Grab a glass, sink into a chair between the vines, watch the sun disappear behind the hills and wonder why life isn't always this simple. A bottle, good company and endless rows of Paul Schumacher’s grapes. Wunderbahr doesn't even begin to cover it.

Share WHAT THINKS FRITZ

The Shift: The End Of Language [TimeKettle]

Not long ago, traveling meant learning at least a few local words, a small gesture of curiosity and respect. Now and tomorrow, AI translation earbuds may do the talking for us, turning every conversation into a seamless exchange. But as software becomes the intermediary between cultures are we breaking down language barriers… or quietly losing something beautifully human along the way? And who knows of what you hear or say is to be or not to be…

Share WHAT THINKS FRITZ

The Story: Re-Engineered Wilderness [Camping]

Camping was once a battle with damp canvas and finicky poles. Today, it is an exercise in elegant, zero-friction curation. We pitch our shelter in two minutes with the poleless, air-framed tent and integrated mattress from Puffer Outdoors. We elevate our social spaces into the forest canopy using the suspended, six-person Tentsile Safari Trillium XL Hammock. Finally, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology silently turns our EVs into off-grid power hubs, while we explore the terrain in beautifully skeletal, open-air electric buggies like the modular Amble One, designed by Apple and Audi alumni. The wilderness hasn’t changed, but our dialogue with it has been beautifully engineered. Something to ponder over the summer camping season: as design and technology make the wild as comfortable as a Scandinavian design cabin, how does it change the way you connect with nature?

Share WHAT THINKS FRITZ

The App: Always Take The Weather With You [Windy]

Forget boring weather apps. Windy is what pilots, sailors, surfers and storm chasers use and once you've tried it, you'll never go back. Stunning interactive maps show wind, rain, clouds, waves and temperatures in real time, helping you dodge downpours, chase sunshine or find the perfect beach. The ultimate travel companion, whether you're hiking the Alps or sipping rosé on the Côte d'Azur.

Share WHAT THINKS FRITZ

The Listening Room: Sonic Vacation [Leon Bridges]

Texan soul singer Leon Bridges shifts gears into the peak of summer with ‘Your Love Is Electric’, a sun-drenched preview of his upcoming album Happiness Anytime. Crafted alongside the production masterminds of Jungle, the track perfectly captures the British electronic trio’s signature mid-tempo magic. The song channels the absolute bliss of a late-night holiday road trip; hypnotic disco claps and a sultry, funk-infused groove instantly transport you to a palm-lined highway at dusk. Bridges pairs his velvet vocals with a breezy, carefree bassline, capturing that intoxicating spark of a sudden summer romance. It’s pure, infectious sunshine for your ears.

Listen to ‘Your Love Is Electric’ on the WTF Fresh Finds playlist on Spotify: a playlist to cherish this summer.

Share WHAT THINKS FRITZ

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for following us on Instagram.

Thanks for spinning our fresh music playlist.

Thanks for listening to our biweekly WtFritzcast.

*Next week: Fritzcast #44.

In 4 weeks: WtF #75.

👋🏻👋🏻 Gijs & Robert

Subscribe for free to receive new posts:

Refer a friend

WtFritzcast #43

Circular Jar Blender•Mind-blowing Art Installation•Desktop Delusion•Emo Road Trip•One Stop Travel App•WTF Time Machine

WHATTHINKSFRITZ

Welcome back to another What Thinks Fritzcast, your bi-weekly passport to the wonderfully unexpected. Handcrafted in Berlin, this powerhouse is the definitive kitchen mixer designed specifically for your own glass jars. Built to last with a repairable, 100% recycled plastic casing, it champions both elegant utility and sustainability. As the mercury rises, it effortlessly crushes ice to transform espresso into a perfectly whipped, café-quality treat. Ready to elevate your warm-weather rituals? Recreate this iconic frappuccino.

Share WHAT THINKS FRITZ

The Journey: Forest [For A Thousand Years]

Forget everything you think you know about sound. FOREST (for a thousand years...) is one of the most mind-blowing art installations you'll ever experience. Hidden speakers transform an ordinary forest into a breathtaking world of birdsong, whispers, galloping horses, distant wars and ghostly voices. The result? An overwhelming, deeply emotional experience that completely blurs the line between reality and imagination. You can experience it at the Glenstone Museum in Maryland, USA. Just be sure to reserve your free timed-entry ticket in advance. Today’s AI wave repeats this shift. Rather than liberating professionals, AI automation introduces a new brand of digital friction: because current models frequently err, our tasks have quietly shifted from creation to laborious fact-checking and editing. We are simply absorbing a new layer of invisible shadow work, forcing us to ask: when we outsource our thinking to machines, are we comfortable with our new role as their administrative handlers?

Share WHAT THINKS FRITZ

The Story: Emo Road Trip [Omaha]

Some films whisper instead of shout. Omaha is one of them. Cole Webley's quietly devastating road movie unfolds with extraordinary restraint, revealing its emotional power mile by mile. In rural England, Gavin and Alice Munro have spent two decades growing living trees into chairs. Each piece takes 6–12 years to mature and currently sells as collectible art for around 75,000 Euro. Equal parts sustainability experiment, design manifesto and exercise in radical patience, Full Grown may be the slowest furniture company on earth, and one of the most fascinating.

Share WHAT THINKS FRITZ

The Journey: A Caveman in Paris [La Caverne du Pont Neuf]

Leave it to JR to turn Paris’ oldest bridge into a giant walk-through cave. La Caverne du Pont Neuf transforms the iconic Pont Neuf into an immersive dreamscape of rock, sound, scent and augmented reality, complete with a soundtrack by former Daft Punk member Thomas Bangalter. From forever young to being endlessly old, Bob’s answer to the newspaper on The Shift in Age and Perspective is worth our (limited…) time:

“The best thing about being 80 is that you outlive the clocks that have been chasing you. It’s freedom from that lie that anything was ever under control. You don’t chase the parade anymore. You’re an old king from some vanished country. You’re harder to program. You’re not rushing to become anything and you’re not haunted by things that you did. You’re haunted by how little of it really mattered in the way you thought it would.

The worst thing about being 80 is that you still want to say yes to everything, but the world moves without asking. The old fire in your heart still tells you to do this and that, but your body says we already did it. Also, nothing surprises you. It sounds like a luxury but it’s not, and also you’ve run out of illusions. People treat you like either you’ve solved something or you’ve lost something, and you haven’t. You see life repeating itself everywhere.

The really worst part about being 80 is that you find, at last, you’ve got an understanding of something that might have altered everything in the past, had it come at a time when something could still be altered. When you’re young you think that time moves forward. At 80 you know that it doesn’t; it stands still. We’re the ones that move.”

Share WHAT THINKS FRITZ

The Story: The Price of Autopilot [The Cost Of]

The literature on personal productivity, most famously epitomized by James Clear’s Atomic Habits, consistently champions the promise of compound growth: the idea that tiny, positive routines accumulate into monumental success. Yet, we blindly ignore the dark side of that same mathematical law.

The Cost Of serves as an elegant mirror to this blind spot. By converting our unexamined daily micro-choices, think of the morning matcha latte to go, the lazy food delivery impulse, and the mindless short-distance Uber, into stark, cumulative realities, it exposes how the autopilot existence quietly drains us. The platform invites you to guess your annual habits before revealing the actual data, forcing you to benchmark your intuition against reality.

We do not lose our future through grand missteps, but through the slow leak of unnoticed repetitions. If every small habit secretly shapes your future, it is time to ask: are your daily routines building your life, or quietly draining it?

Share WHAT THINKS FRITZ

The App: Sketching Perfect Playlists [Playback Music]

We have millions of songs at our fingertips, yet we listen to the same few playlists. Look at the minimalist Light Phone III, or Low-tech Magazine, founded in 2007, the latter now runs on a solar-powered server that delightfully goes offline whenever the weather turns grey. This low-tech mindset isn’t a step backward; it is a critical approach that refuses to believe ‘new’ always means ‘better’. Instead, it combines forgotten knowledge with modern materials to fix problems caused by high-tech inventions. No lectures here, of course; you are reading this on a screen, after all. But replacing predictable algorithms with real-world friction feels like an optimistic course-correction for our creativity. What part of your digital routine are you ready to hand back to the real world?

Share WHAT THINKS FRITZ

The Story: Brilliant and Bruising [Half Man]

From Richard Gadd, the brilliant and bruising mind behind Baby Reindeer, Half Man is a raw HBO Max drama that ricochets between Ruben and Niall like a basketball in a championship game. Speed. Navigation. Autopilot state. Tiny rituals of distraction rebranded as “minimalism.” NeuroHUD feels like the first product made by people who actually live with Teslas every day, not just industrial designers in render land. It restores information to the driver’s natural field of vision without ruining the clean cabin aesthetic. A very Tesla-era phenomenon: the aftermarket quietly fixing the compromises Silicon Valley convinced everyone were features.

The Journey: Run (and stay at) a Bookstore [Open Book]

Nestled in the beautiful landscapes of Galloway, Scotland, The Open Book is more than a holiday stay, it is a chance to become a real bookseller in Scotland’s National Book Town. Guests live in the apartment above the shop and run the second-hand bookstore below, curating displays, recommending titles and welcoming visitors. Drawing bibliophiles and curious travellers from around the world, it offers a rare blend of literary charm, community spirit and slow Scottish living surrounded by sea, forests and endless stories. Book through Airbnb.

The Shift: Build your own Everything [Schematik]

What ChatGPT did for writing, Schematik could do for the physical world. Describe a chair, drone, bridge, rocket, watch, machine or plane in plain language, and the system generates manufacturable designs, simulations, engineering solutions and whre to buy what parts in minutes. It’s the democratization of invention: turning ambitious amateurs into creators and shrinking years of technical expertise into a conversation. The future of design is now only a prompt away.

The Story: The Squeezed Brand [Worse on Purpose]

As highlighted by Worse on Purpose in their analysis of why your power tools got worse, a cynical corporate pattern unfolds when private equity acquires heritage brands: they strip production costs and exploit consumer trust to maximize short-term margins. This spreadsheet-driven decay of value extends far beyond the tool shed; we see the same structural decay in Boeing’s aviation crisis and the plasticization of luxury fashion. The macro lesson is clear: when financial engineering eclipses product engineering, a brand stops building its future and merely liquidates its past. Enduring quality remains the smartest strategy.

The App: Bang for your Bucks [Grenspret]

The Grenspret app is a cheerful little rebellion against overpriced Dutch groceries and fuel. The app turns border-crossing into a data-driven dopamine hit. It’s part savings calculator, part lifestyle flex. Fill out what you want, where you live and how you travel to calculate your potential groceries, tobacco and gas savings. Grenspret is hyper-practical, oddly addictive and gives you lots of bang for your bucks.

The Listening Room: Modern Retro Soul [Thee Sinseers]

Led by Joey Quiñones, East LA’s Thee Sinseers return with ‘Did Ya Know?’, a sweet soul ballad on Colemine Records. Blending lowrider nostalgia with crisp horns and warm analog production, the track captures a rare emotional depth that listeners describe as pure comfort. Alongside peers like Thee Sacred Souls and Durand Jones, they are brilliantly revitalizing 21st-century Soul. Winding Back in Time [I’m Back Roll]

In a world obsessed with infinite scrolling and instant results, the I’m Back Roll feels almost rebellious. A tiny APS-C sensor hidden inside a fake film roll transforms vintage analog cameras into digital shooters without screens, distractions, or breaking the ritual of photography. It’s brilliant not because it’s convenient, but because it preserves the magic: winding the lever, framing carefully, slowing down. A digital future disguised as analog nostalgia.

The Journey: Tasty Story Telling [Masque]

In Mumbai, everything collides: spice, sea air, history, chaos, color. It’s a city that overwhelms in the best possible way, where every street tells a story through scent and sound. At Masque, that entire sensory explosion is distilled into something extraordinary. Local ingredients, bold techniques and deep respect for India’s culinary roots come together in a menu that feels like a journey through the city itself. Each dish captures a fragment of Mumbai. Its energy, its contrasts, its soul. Re-imagined, refined and served with precision and imagination.

The Shift: From Workers to Overseers [AI Impact]

The global labor market is undergoing a sharp recalibration: a pivot from execution to oversight. Data from jobsdata.ai suggests we are no longer merely the primary engines of output, but the directors of the systems that produce it. This evolution is becoming tangible; in China, Rest of World reports that factory workers are transforming into ‘mentors’, schooling humanoid robots in high-dexterity tasks. Whether at a desk or on the factory floor, the human role has been re-indexed. We have moved from being the ‘doers’ to the data trainers: the architects of an autonomous workforce. The office is now a classroom; the machines are our pupils.

The Story: Game On [Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow ]

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin is a love story, a creative journey, and a meditation on time. It follows two friends who build a video game empire together, navigating ambition, friendship, failure, and reinvention. Set across decades, the novel captures how we grow, drift, reconnect and keep creating. Again and again and again. It’s about the worlds we build, both digital and real, and how they shape who we become. Smart, moving, and deeply human, this is storytelling that stays with you long after the final page.

The App: Retaining the Remarkable [Snipd]

For the modern polymath, Snipd elegantly solves the transience of spoken wisdom by transforming passive podcast listening into a precise tool for knowledge curation. By utilizing AI-driven transcripts, the app allows users to ‘snip’ and save pivotal insights instantly with a simple tap on their headphones, effectively capturing ideas that would otherwise evaporate. Whether you are syncing strategy notes directly to a digital second brain (like Notion) or bookmarking concepts during a morning run, Snipd ensures every commute serves a purpose. It is an essential upgrade for the intellectually curious who demand utility and permanence from their media.

The Listening Room: Japanese Funk & Soul [DJ Notoya]

Tokyo-based selector DJ Notoya returns with Tokyo Pulse, a masterfully curated survey of Japanese funk and modern soul from 1974 to 1988. For the What Thinks Fritz listener, we highly recommend the whole album. Listen, for instance, to Minoru Koyama’s ‘After Images’: a masterclass in atmosphere, blending a sleek, driving bassline with sophisticated synth layers and a cool, nocturnal vocal. It perfectly captures the polished, urban high-fidelity sound that defined Tokyo’s golden era of studio craftsmanship. This is your curated toolkit for a life lived with more presence and less noise.

<picture></picture>

<g></g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

WtF is not paid to mention any of these resources; These human-authored hardcovers distill complex subjects into elegant, personalized primers tailored to your specific curiosity. By blending clear facts with a sophisticated aesthetic, Gist Books transforms dense topics into a physical toolkit for the modern conversationalist. It is the ultimate intellectual shortcut: a beautifully bound, custom-made essential for those who value substance as much as style.

The Journey: Sailing Sauna [HotTug]

As you slowly glide through the landscape, it’s as if a gentle breeze guides you. Basking in the warm, steaming water, you feel at one with your surroundings and time seems to stand still. You can step out of the HotTug to take a dip in the fresh water. Brrrr, the refreshing cold tingles on your skin. Then gently ease yourself back into the warm water. You had imagined what it would be like to sail in a HotTug, but this exceeds expectations. Life doesn’t get much better than this.

The Shift: The Sound of Silence [Silent Book Club]

In a world buzzing with notifications, opinions, and endless digital noise, something quieter is taking hold. People gather to read in silence, linger over slow-cooked meals, or take long walks without headphones. No pressure, no performance, just presence. From Silent Book Clubs to silent walking or slow food kitchens, a quiet movement is growing. It’s not about doing more, but feeling more. Because in all the noise, what people crave most is stillness, connection, and a little room to breathe and listen to the sound of silence…

The Story: Original Quilt Gangsters [The Quilters]

The Quilters is a quietly powerful reminder that care and compassion can show up anywhere. Inside a prison, a group of incarcerated men come together to sew quilts. Not just pieces of fabric, but acts of kindness destined for children in need. Stitch by stitch, they build purpose, connection, and hope. It’s a deeply human story about second chances, showing how even in the most unlikely places, warmth and generosity can grow.

The App: The Google of Lost&Found [iLost]

A lost key. A missing bag. A story unfinished. On iLost, strangers become quiet heroes, uploading forgotten things into a digital universe where hope lives. One search, one match, one moment. Suddenly, what was gone finds its way home again.

The Listening Room: Analog Velvet Groove [Dabeull]

It is time to explore the tactile sonic textures of the French ‘King of Fonk', Dabeull, whose latest release ‘ The Shadow of Your Smile’ serves as a definitive masterclass in analog warmth. This timeless standard, originally the Oscar-winning theme from the 1965 film The Sandpiper, has been interpreted hundreds of times by legendary voices such as Astrud Gilberto, Stevie Wonder and Frank Sinatra, as well as in the 1983 funk version by D-Train. By deploying vintage synthesizers to bridge the gap between seventies and eighties nostalgia and modern high-fidelity, Dabeull crafts an analog velvet groove that feels both archival and urgent. It is a lush, rhythmically infectious journey that demands a slow evening and a chilled Negroni.

This track, alongside a selection of other curated essentials, is now available for your discovery on the What Thinks Fritz Fresh Finds playlist on Spotify.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for following us on Instagram.

Thanks for spinning our fresh music playlist.

Thanks for listening to our biweekly WtFritzcast.

Next week: Fritzcast #38.

In 2 weeks: WtF #69.

👋🏻👋🏻 Gijs & Robert

Subscribe for free to receive new posts:

Refer a friend

WtFritzcast #37

Light Cooking•Sleeping in a Library•Back to the Future•Cubic Meat•Vinyl & Value•Yacht-Funk Blueprint

WHATTHINKSFRITZ

In this edition we navigate the fascinating intersection of heritage and high-tech. Using pure light instead of fire, it’s the world’s first smart optical smoke‑free grill. An entirely new way to cook. Light delivers instant heat, clean performance and the deep, caramelized flavor of charcoal without smoke or mess. Compact and precise, it empowers chefs and delights food lovers. That’s true light cooking.

The Journey: Sleeping in a Library [Book and Beds]

In Tokyo’s neon‑lit calm, Book and Beds forms a hidden retreat above the city’s restless rhythm. Shelves packed with thousands of volumes glow like lanterns against the night, offering quiet worlds far from Shinjuku’s crossings and humming trains. Beds nestle between bookcases, turning the act of resting into a soft pause within the metropolis. Here, stories mingle with the muted pulse of Tokyo, guiding travelers into dreams shaped by paper, light, and gentle urban hush. Here you are invited into ‘a bookstore where you can stay.’

The Shift: Back to the Future [Upcycling]

There was a time when groceries landed on your doorstep, coffee dripped through simple filters, and flying was a privilege reserved for the few. Then everything shifted: supermarkets took over, cars reshaped daily life, (N)espresso machines sped up our mornings, and budget airlines made the skies accessible to everyone. Now the pendulum is swinging back. Home delivery is booming again, drip coffee is having a renaissance, and airlines are trimming economy cabins to make room for premium comfort. So the past is weaving itself into the future once more. The real question is what part of “the old days” will return next - and how it will be reinvented this time.

The Story: Cubic Meat [SPAM Museum]

Innovation isn’t always silicon; sometimes, it’s a blue tin of spiced ham. Launched in 1937, SPAM became a logistical masterstroke with its 10 x 8 x 5.5 cm rectangular tin. By eliminating the dead space of cylindrical cans, it became the ‘little blue can of the future’ fueling global armies and winning over icons from Margaret Thatcher to Monty Python. While tech hijacked the name for digital junk, the original remains a branding masterpiece. Its dedicated SPAM Museum celebrates this ‘cubism’; a masterclass in scaling a product that never expires, showing us that utility and indestructible design can turn a wartime necessity into a permanent cultural icon.

The App: Vinyl & Value [Plastic]

In the tactile world of vinyl, the greatest finds are often buried beneath the dust of the crates. Plastic serves as a sophisticated record scanner for the modern discophile, identifying albums instantly via a smartphone camera. By bypassing the friction of manual entry, it delivers real-time market valuations and rarity insights in seconds. For the serious collector, the app offers the precision required to pinpoint ‘holy grails’ like Prince’s ‘Camille’, the legendary 1986 album featuring his pitched-up, androgynous alter ego. With integrated BPM and Camelot Key data for seamless harmonic mixing, the app Plastic transforms a physical hoard into a curated digital gallery. It is functional excellence for those who treat their collection not merely as a hobby, but as a private museum.

The Listening Room: Yacht-Funk Blueprint [Thundercat]

In the track What Is Left To Say Thundercat delivers a masterclass in Yacht-Funk, blending the sun-drenched sophistication of 1970s Steely Dan with his signature avant-garde bass precision. It is a high-fidelity daydream: a sonic embrace that pairs vintage, velvet harmonies with a sharp, futuristic pulse. Effortlessly cool and technically flawless, this track is an essential study in modern nostalgia from his outstanding new album, Distracted. Timeless Audio [Geneva Time]

Swiss audio pioneers Geneva have redefined the bedside table with ‘Geneva Time.’ This tactile object marries analog charm with digital precision, featuring a premium leather finish and aluminum grille. With a superior Bluetooth speaker and wireless charger, the aesthetic offers a respectful nod to Dieter Rams’ functionalist Braun heritage. In an era of screen fatigue, this is functional art for the minimalist who values a refined, distraction-free morning.

The Journey: Buckingham Belfast [Sheddington Manor]

History is always waiting around the corner in Belfast. So are pubs, music and friendly folks. Still, walls are to the day dividing neighborhoods. Some even close at night. But troubles aside, Belfast is a wonderful city with wonderful people and enchanting places to stay like for (a unique) example Sheddington Manor. A place like a fairy tale filled with royalty, history, stories of the past, stories of the future and featuring its own seat cinema.

The Shift: Prestige vs. Performance [Paul Graham]

Silicon Valley thinker Paul Graham signals the sunset of the ‘Brand Age’ in his latest essay. For decades, prestigious logos served as a necessary proxy for quality in an era of information scarcity. Today, that scarcity is dead. With radical digital transparency, the power is shifting definitively from marketing budgets to actual product merit. What Thinks Fritz finds this shift compelling because it marks a return to a pure meritocracy; Graham’s thesis confirms that in a transparent market, one can no longer hide a mediocre product behind a famous name. It is, ultimately, a ruthless return to reality over packaging.

The Story: Inside Imagination [Hayao Miyazaki & the Heron]

The Netflix documentary Hayao Miyazaki and the Heron let’s you be the fly on the wall during the creation of what might be the final film from the legendary Hayao Miyazaki, director of Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro and Howl's Moving Castle. The film drifts across the screen like a whispered dream, revealing the quiet storms and fragile wonders inside a master’s imagination. The documentary feels carved from wind and memory, each moment shimmering with the tenderness of creation itself. It invites you to wander through the trembling edges of inspiration, where sketches breathe and silence glows. When it ends, the world seems softer, as if touched by a feather dipped in magic.

The App: Download Like A Local [TravelReddi]

Uber abroad? Not always your friend. Local ride apps can be cheaper, faster and crucially, actually available. One missed pickup in Spain was enough to spark TravelReddi, a site pointing you to the apps locals really use for navigation, transit, restaurants. Skip the global defaults. Download like a local.

The Listening Room: Analog Ambitions [Tom Misch]

South London’s premier sonic architect, Tom Misch, returns with his sophomore solo effort, Full Circle. Following a period of Nashville-induced recalibration and a brush with burnout, Misch has wisely traded digital precision for the analog grain of vintage tape (a move WTF thoroughly endorses😜).

Inspired by the spare intimacy of Joni Mitchell and the grit of JJ Cale, lead single ‘Sisters With Me’ signals a shift toward earnest, classic songwriting. It is a grounded departure for an artist outgrowing his bedroom-pop origins: a track we’ve already added to our What Thinks Fresh Finds playlist for your listening pleasure. No marketplace chaos, no weird sellers, no mystery stains. Just premium design, verified, photographed properly and priced like the universe briefly decided to be kind. It’s sustainable, stylish, and dangerously easy to justify.

The Journey: Amalfi Joyride [Danilo Capri Concierge]

Slide into a gleaming Mercedes-Benz SL R107 roadster for Danilo Capri’s vintage tour along the Amalfi Coast. Hair flies in the sea breeze as you hug cliffside curves from Salerno to Positano: lemon groves glowing, waves crashing below, locals waving like old pals. It’s pure ‘la dolce vita’: wind-in-your-face freedom, heart-thumping bends, views that shout ‘carpe diem’. Chrome and open skies make you feel forever young.

The Shift: The future/history of Film [Thanksgiving Day]

Igor Alferov’s Thanksgiving Day is a surreal, AI-animated satire where a bear and platypus (🦆?) drift through space in a flying dumpster, battling corrupt galactic officials over hygiene violations. Their Thanksgiving spirals into absurd bureaucracy, blending ‘humor’ with decay. The film won the Frame Forward AI Film Festival, earning a promised theatrical run until AMC refused to screen it, sparking debate over AI-generated art. With its chaotic visuals, trashy aesthetic and sharp commentary, Thanksgiving Day became a lightning rod for questions about creativity, ethics and the future, or should we say history, of film. Judge for yourself:

The Story: Office Paper Trap

Microsoft Office: that old 1980s tool with endless rulers, page breaks, and time-wasting updates, like a Severance-style cubicle from hell, still tying Europe to US tech giants. Now it’s a security risk, so governments want open-source like LibreOffice. But try getting officials off their A4 pages! Real fix? Switch to plain text for free-flowing ideas. With AI rising fast, it’s time to break free from digital paperwork forever (read: Trapped in MS Office).

The App: Healthy Pocket Cop [FLTRD]

FLTRD is the app that finally calls bullshit on your ‘healthy’ supermarket habits. One scan and it exposes your yoghurt-for-gym-bros as ultra-processed sludge, then hands you cleaner swaps without the wellness cult vibes. It’s fast, brutally honest and makes you feel like you’ve unlocked cheat codes for adulting... Basically: a tiny nutrition cop in your pocket, but fun. Available now for Apple, soon for Android.

The Listening Room: Bass 2 Brass Shift [Flea]

At 63, Red Hot Chili Peppers bass legend Flea, daily trumpet practitioner for two years past 60, returns to his first instrument, echoing his manic Smells Like Teen Spirit solo with Nirvana at 1993’s Rio festival. This ignites his wordless ‘Thinkin Bout You’ cover: hazy brass-and-bass reverie tracing Frank Ocean’s melody with rainy LA ache and amber glow.
